About

I am a Bachelor of Studio Art graduate whose work explores the intersection of beauty, discomfort, and mental health through sculptural forms. My practice centers on hand-built pieces that embrace imperfection, exaggeration, and emotional intensity. Drawing on themes of identity, vulnerability, and inner turmoil, I transform familiar objects—such as portraits and celebratory symbols—into surreal, sometimes unsettling compositions that reflect the complexity of lived emotional experiences. Working primarily in sculpture, I use texture, gloss, and distortion to externalize feelings that are often difficult to articulate. Exaggerated facial features, hollow expressions, and unexpected elements like candles or decorative motifs serve as metaphors for masking, performance, and the pressure to appear “put together” despite internal struggles. My work often sits in the space between playful and disturbing, mirroring the contradictions within mental health—where humor, fragility, anxiety, and resilience can coexist. Through my Bachelor of Studio Art education, I developed a strong foundation in material exploration, conceptual thinking, and critical self-reflection. My practice continues to evolve as I use art as a way to process and communicate emotional states, inviting viewers to confront discomfort, question perception, and find connection in shared human vulnerability.

Artist Statement

During my years as an artist, I always felt compelled to express and show the struggles that I and many others face with mental illness and mental health. Mental illness is a reality for many people in our society, such as myself. I and many others have always viewed mental illness as a monster, seen as the worst parts of oneself, but it is still a part of you; My "monster" and I are one. My art style has always been inspired by the juxtaposition of cute and horror; I’ve always enjoyed combining the terrifying and the adorable to create a harmonious balance. This is what inspired my interactive "Monster Tea Party" ceramic setting. I would like to personally invite my "monster" to have tea with me. Extending out an olive branch. One is created to be destructive, while the other is born to create. We are together for life, my monster and I. With these ceramic works of art, I hope to help others find peace within themselves.
