Current HAL members only may bring 1-2 pieces of art for gentle critique from a professional art educator and artist. Participants are to bring in their artwork between 7:00 and 7:15 pm. Non-members are welcome to attend, as there is much to learn by simply listening. Critiques can be a great way of getting information to get past a block in your art-making process or to simply understand how another person might see or interpret your work of art. Eric’s approach is to meet you where you are in your art process, stay positive, and to give you actionable information to improve your work. This is a great opportunity before the Barn Show in May.
Derek Leka will present and discuss the foundational skeletal structures that remain constant as the human body moves. First you will study the skull; its forms, proportions, eye socket, nose shapes, jaw and teeth. You will then learn how the skull's structure relates to the rib cage and the pelvis. These areas will be simplified into clear geometric volumes, helping you see how the head, thorax, and hips maintain their structural integrity while shifting in orientation as the body bends, twists, and turns. By understanding these three key forms, you will gain a clearer framework for constructing the human figure.

Visit our FAQsI was raised in a Dominican household in the Bronx. Dominican artwork/sculptures were all over our small apartment. One piece of art work that always stood out to me was a ceramic doll which is called “Munecas sin rostros”. These dolls represent the diversity the Dominican Republic has. As a Dominican-American I have to find my own way to represent my culture. All Of my figures in my painting are women of color. It represents the women I grew up with, the women I would see on a daily basis growing up.
I have a vision to tell a story via graphic novel/manga as the medium. Looking for interested artists to work with.
I am a self taught oil painter. I have been painting since I was younger as a hobby using mostly acrylic but recently switched over to oil.
Foundation for the New Haven County Bar
I’m a multidisciplinary visual artist working across murals, portrait illustration, and special effects makeup. Inspired by pop art and pop culture, my style features bold colors and expressive strokes. My goal is to work in film, creating creatures and realistic horror effects for movie sets.

Through workshops, community conversations, storytelling, and written works, Soaring on Angels’ Wings™ encourages healing, reflection, and connection. Dr. Dancy leads programs such as Navigating Grief: You Can Live Again, helping participants process grief, honor their loved ones, and rediscover hope. The initiative centers on the belief that grief is a personal journey, but no one has to walk through it alone. By creating opportunities for dialogue, creative expression, and community support, Soaring on Angels’ Wings™ reminds others that healing is possible and that life can still hold purpose and meaning. Signature Message: You Can Live Again.

As an artist, I have always felt most at home creating, especially when working with my hands. Whether I am painting for personal fulfillment, completing a commission, or crafting something meaningful for a loved one, the act of making has always brought me a deep sense of purpose and joy.
