The Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury, CT, seeks a highly organized and motivated Development Officer to join our Development team. The Development Officer plays a key role in securing and managing institutional support from foundations, government agencies, corporations, and other partners to advance the Mattatuck Museum’s mission. This position oversees all aspects of the grants program, including research, proposal writing, submission, reporting, and stewardship, while also managing corporate sponsorships and membership initiatives across programs, exhibitions, and events. Working closely with Curatorial, Education, and Finance staff, the Development Officer gathers project information, ensures compliance with funding requirements, and builds strong relationships with funders. The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer with strong attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and enthusiasm for supporting museums, cultural organizations, and community impact.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS • Bachelor’s degree preferred, advanced degree or relevant certifications a plus. • 2–4+ years of experience in grant writing, institutional advancement, nonprofit development, or related field. • Proven success in writing compelling proposals and managing grants or sponsorships. • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with excellent attention to detail. • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. • Experience with donor databases (e.g., Altru, Clearview, Salesforce) preferred. • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to cultivate professional relationships. • Interest in the arts, museums, education, or community-focused cultural work.
