Sidetime Studio is a professional-grade intaglio and monotype printshop located in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Established in 2024 by Sarah Madden, the studio aims to provide an additional venue for printmaking education and print artist resources in NYC. We currently offer workshops in traditional etching and in monotype. More classes to be announced soon. We also offer printing services, individual tutorials, personalized events, and press rental at relatively low prices. Our upcoming workshop in hard ground etching will be Saturday and Sunday, November 16th and 17th. There is a limit of four participants to ensure everyone is able to use the studio fully. Please visit our website for more information and see the class description below: $300 (includes materials) Saturday and Sunday 1-5:30pm. Etching, a 16th-century printmaking technique, involves incising an image onto a metal plate, which is then treated with acid, cleaned, inked, and printed onto paper via a press to create a detailed print. This workshop will focus on this early printmaking technique and will use traditional materials to prepare and print the plates. Participants will create their own copper plates and will be able to print in both color and black inks. The workshop is limited to four participants. All materials provided. Maximum plate size is 9 x 12 inches. This class uses materials and chemicals that are potentially harmful. We take precautions to protect our bodies while using chemicals and aim to use the minimum required to get the job done.
