Summer Studio is back for its fourth year and is taking place at Southern Connecticut State University @scsuart . This course is offered to rising high school juniors and seniors residing in Southern Connecticut. Summer Studio is built to break barriers for better design. We recognize accessibility to tools and education in design is limited for high school students in many metropolitan areas, and we’d like to change that by providing these resources free of charge. Additionally, we’d like to show that graphic design is a pathway to a creative career in many industries. Summer Studio prepares students for college, especially if they choose to pursue a design major, while introducing them to industry leaders and mentors. As a bonus, students who graduate from Summer Studio receive a Microsoft Surface laptop and a one-year subscription to Adobe Creative Suite. During this course, students: * Receive hands-on experience in a college setting * Be part of SCSU’s Early College program and earn 3 college credits * Hone art skills to prepare them for future graphic design * Network with design professors and industry leaders * Explore design principles, animation, editing, marketing * Craft portfolio-ready art projects in a fun, creative atmosphere We are continuing our mission to help ignite a greater appreciation for the arts and graphic design, one student at a time. Applications open May 15th. ------ What is Summer Studio? In 2021, Summer Studio was created by DJ Haddad from PureRed in partnership with AIGA Connecticut and Sacred Heart University. Since its inception, Summer Studio has taken place at Sacred Heart University and University of New Haven. Summer Studio is a free graphic design course for high school juniors and seniors with the goal of diversifying the creative industry of tomorrow. Led by educators and industry professionals, Summer Studio explores design challenges like typography, composition and animation, while giving students hands-on Adobe Creative Suite experience. Participating students are taught in a college campus atmosphere and learn new skills in graphic design. Recognizing accessibility to tools and education in design is limited for students in many metropolitan areas, this course is free of charge for all participants and includes a Microsoft Surface laptop, a one-year subscription to Adobe Creative Suite, three college credits, meals and transportation available from select locations. The estimated value is $5,500+ per student.
